Sandhutton the Village

Sandhutton is small village that is fortunate in that it has a church, a pub, a village hall and a Parish Council. In the last five years there have been 4 new housing developments growing the population of the village significantly (approx. 90 houses to 120), giving rise to a welcome reduction of the average age in the village.

The Hall

Although basically the same structure as the old village school, the hall has been progressively modernised and improved over the years. Windows have been replaced, a disabled parking bay in the carpark, toilets adapted to allow disabled access and baby changing facilities installed. Together with new tables and chairs the hall is kept available for a wide range of activities.

In November 2022 the original plaster cracked and fell from the ceiling causing damage to the suspended ceiling beneath. As a result of this the hall was closed whilst work was undertaken to restore the original vaulted ceiling. This gave the committee the opportunity to install insulated plasterboard and to insulate the loft as well as to be completely rewired and new lighting installed. This was rounded off with a complete redecoration and other improvements.

Current Facilities and Activities

Sandhutton and Breckenbrough Village Hall offers a main hall of some 63 square metres and a large entrance space of 30 square metres that can be divided off from the main hall by glass bifold doors. Off the entrance hall is a kitchen available for visitors, with cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, water boiler together with a sink/drainer area. An adequate number of folding tables and chairs capable of seating 80 people.

Since the refurbishment in 2023 there has been a huge increase in the Village Hall’s usage. The hall hosts a variety of events including regular sessions of Chair Yoga to sewing group to African drumming.

The large car park lends itself to pop up events such as a car boot fare and a monthly Pizza Van.

There have been a number of events, such as a Mexican themed event, very successful 70’s night with live music, wine and cheese night, race night to name a few.
Recently Saltburn Smugglers, a sea shanty group, attended to a sell-out audience.
The Prosecco/afternoon tea in the village hall have been a success for elderly/lonely members of the village and also acts as an opportunity for new residents to meet other residents.
