Equality and Diversity Policy

  1. The Village Hall Committee’s commitment
    To create an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of all our Trustees, volunteers and beneficiaries are recognised and valued. Everyone is entitled to be part of an environment that promotes dignity and respect to all. No form of intimidation, bullying or harassment will be tolerated.

  2. The Village Hall Committee recognises that everyone has a contribution to make to our society and a right to equal opportunity. No hirer, user, volunteer or organisation to which we provide services will be discriminated against by us on the grounds of:

    • Age
    • Disability
    • Gender reassignment
    • Marriage or civil partnership
    • Pregnancy and maternity
    • Race
    • Religion or belief
    • Sex
    • Sexual orientation
  3. The committee aims to promote equal opportunities, eliminate discrimination and eliminate harassment through the following practices:

    • Ensuring that Village Hall facilities are open to all, subject to booking acceptance.
    • Opposing all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination.
    • Treating all Trustees, volunteers and beneficiaries fairly and with respect.
    • Appointing Trustees and other volunteers on the basis of aptitude and ability.
    • Ensuring that all Trustees and volunteers understand their legal and moral obligation not to discriminate and to report incidents of discrimination to the Chair, Vice Chair or any other Trustee.
  4. All hirers must read the above and comply with it. It is preferable that organisation hiring the Village Hall have its own Equality and Diversity Policy.

  5. Any suggestions from hall hirers and users to improve equality and diversity will be warmly welcomed. All ideas will be considered by the committee and a written reply will be sent to whoever made the suggestions explaining the outcome.
